The de addiction event, organized by the police under its Nasha Mukti Abhiyan, attended by school children in Wadrafnaga.
Quoting lines from Harivansh Rai Bachchan’s book Madhushala at a de-addiction drive event, Tekam said liquor should be diluted, consumed at specific time. There should be self-control, he also said.

#WATCH | At a de-addiction drive, Chhattisgarh Min Premsai Singh Tekam says, "There should be self-control. I once went to a meeting where they spoke for & against liquor. One side spoke of its benefits. Liquor should be diluted, there should be a duration (to consume it)"(31.8) pic.twitter.com/FE8HJd3ktD
The Minister also said that liquor unites everyone and he alongwith other leaders also use it during election campaign.
Talking about the ill-effects of alcohol, the minister advised that one must not get addicted. Daaru (liquor) meant D, which also stood for dilution with water as well as duration, as all of it must not be had at once, he said.
Two videos of Chhattisgarh minister Dr Premsai Singh Tekam are doing rounds on social media.
In one of the videos, he can be heard talking about drinking alcohol. The road accidents don’t take place where the road is bad but happens where the road is good, another video of Congress leader shows.
Ever since the videos have gone viral on social media, it has created discussions on social media on the credibility of Tekam as an education minister od Congress-ruled state.
Hitting out, BJP MLA Ajay Chandrakar said Bhupesh Baghel government and party are full of cartoons. None of them have understanding of subjects. This is not a functioning government but a puppet show being controlled by a family.
Tekam’s statements on liquor comes soon after state BJP MLA Krishnamurti Bandhi had recently suggested that bhang and cannabis’ be encouraged as alternatives to liquor, claiming persons hooked on these substances hardly commit offences like rape, murder and dacoity.

K K Shailaja claimed that she had received a letter from the Magsaysay award committee and that the central committee of CPM had decided to forego the prize.

The central committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), CPM, has allegedly scuttled the chance of former Kerala health minister K K Shailaja winning the Ramon Magsaysay Award 2022. Reports said that the former CPM minister was recognised for her work during the Covid-19 pandemic and Nipah endemic in the state.
CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury today said that the Left Democratic Front (LDF), the public health infrastructure and the people of Kerala have set an example in tackling public health crises. They would consistently strive to do better. There were reasons why the Magsaysay award was not accepted.

He further said that this award was in the name of Ramon Magsaysay who has a history of brutal oppression of the communists in the Philippines. So for all these factors together, politely she has refused it.

K K Shailaja claimed that she had received a letter from the Magsaysay award committee and that the central committee of CPM had decided to forego the prize.
According to the reports, the party looked at different aspects of the award and decided that as health minister, Shailaja was merely doing her duty entrusted to her by the party.
The reports further said that the communist party decides that the Covid resistance was the result of the government’s collective effort. Shialaja should not receive the medal in her personal capacity because the state’s efforts to combat the Covid 19 pandemic and Nipah endemic were a part of a communal campaign.
Reports said that Shailaja informed the foundation expressing her inability to accept the award.
The Ramon Magsaysay Award was established in April 1957 by the trustees of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund based in New York in the name of former Philippine President Ramon Magsaysay. It is an annual award. The award is given to Asian individuals for achieving excellence in their respective fields.

Congress, as a principal responsible opposition party of the country since last one year on the street, the party leaders in police stations against this price rise, the Congress said.
The Congress’ halla bol rally comes ahead of the opposition party’s 3,500-km Bharat Jodo Yatra from Kanyakumari to Kashmir starting September 7. With the help of party’s biggest ever mass contact programme, the Congress will highlight the issues of price rice, unemployment and also promote communal harmony across the country.
Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said that this protest has nothing to do with upcoming assembly elections or the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. It is a befitting message to the insensitive central government as people are troubled by inflation and unemployment, he said.
While Congress spokesperson Gourav Vallabh said the Centre has been misusing the CBI and ED to silence the Opposition but the Congress will continue to raise its voice against the inflation, unemployment and imposition of GST on essential food items.

The Union Minister for Law and Justice Kiren Rijiju on Saturday slammed B N Srikrishna, former Supreme Court judge, for his remarks on the current situation in the country. B N Srikrishna had said that things were very bad.
Sharing an image of his comment, Kiren Rijiju wrote on Twitter that those people who spoke all the time without any restrictions to abuse the popularly elected Prime Minister were crying about freedom of expression! They would never talk about the emergency imposed by the Congress and never dared to criticise Regional Party’s Chief Ministers.
Those people who speak all the time without any restrictions to abuse the popularly elected Prime Minister are crying about freedom of expression ! They will never talk about emergency imposed by congress party and never dare to criticise some Regional Party CMs. https://t.co/LSfwbxLYbx
The Law and Justice Minister also raised concern about this statement. He said that If it was true then the statement itself was demeaning to the institution he had served.
In an interview with The Hindu newspaper, B N Srikrishna said that if he was to stand in a public square and said he did not like the face of the Prime Minister, somebody might raid him, arrest him, or throw him in jail without giving him any reason. Now that was something that all of them opposed as citizens.
Justifying the remarks on the Modi government, he told another national newspaper that he was talking about civil servants exercising their fundamental right to freedom of speech. As long as the criticism was civil and made in a decent manner, it should not come in the way of their service rules. But his concern was also about the rule of law and how the government responded to critics.
Nagendra Sharma, a lawyer and journalist, wrote on Twitter that Law Minister was not contradicting the essence of Justice Srikrishna’s observation. He went on to justify the authoritarianism citing the example of a few regional parties’ CMs. So, according to Rijiju, there was nothing wrong with authoritarianism.
