The Volunteer Center of Reno County, a United Way Agency, is a central clearinghouse for volunteer opportunities in Reno County. H.E.E.L.O. INC. is seeking two volunteers to help co-facilitate an Alzheimer’s Support Group at the Clayworks every second Saturday of the month from 10 a.m.-11 a.m. Volunteers should have previous experiencing facilitating meetings, creating and following agendas, and interacting with the public. Volunteers must be good listeners, nonjudgmental and empathetic. Volunteers must be 21 years of age.
HORIZONS MENTAL HEALTH CENTER is looking for volunteer Information Desk workers on Mondays and Fridays from 8a-12p, and 12p-5p (times for shifts can be adjusted). Volunteers will staff the information desk, and direct customers and visitors where to go in the building when asked. Volunteers may also be communicating by messenger on computer to alert other staff when appointments have arrived, etc. Volunteers must be able to work with the public, be friendly, and will be sitting for long periods of time.
COSMOSPHERE-Volunteers are needed in a variety of ways at the Cosmosphere. Volunteers are needed to help at the information desk and act as a host/hostess for guests, tour docents are needed to lead groups and share information about the Cosmosphere, CosmoKids volunteers are needed to assist children and their families with STEAM activities in the CosmoKids area, cargo bay gift store volunteers are needed to check out and assist customers in the store, education area volunteers are needed to assist the Cosmosphere staff with education programs, a video transcription volunteer is needed to transcribe film, and rocket team volunteers are needed to assist in educational rocket launches. All of these positions would be during normal operating hours Sunday-Thursday from 9a-5p, and Friday-Saturday from 9a-7p.
BEYOND BARRIERS is looking for volunteer receptionists on weekday mornings from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. and afternoons from 12 p.m.-5 p.m. (or over the lunch hour from 12 p.m.-2 p.m.). Volunteers will answer the phones, transfer calls, make outgoing phone calls, greet visitors, organize files, maintain cleanliness of the front desk area, unlock filing cabinets, complete forms on computer, write thank you notes, address envelopes and complete receipt memos. Volunteers must have general computer skills, be able to handle a multi-line phone system and have good communication skills.
HUTCHINSON MOMS-Volunteers are needed to provide child care during meetings on the 2nd and 4th Friday of every month from 8:45a.m.-11 a.m. during the school year. Volunteers must have some experience with children and provide a safe, enjoyable environment for them.
HUTCH REC is looking for volunteers to help with the Salt City 5K & 10K on October 1. Registration volunteers are needed from 6:30 a.m.-8 a.m. and route support volunteers are needed from 8 a.m. until the two races are finished. Volunteers will be outside and must be able to interact with the public in a friendly manner.
