Austrade Focuses On Entrepreneurship, Concludes SAEC Challenge – BW Disrupt

Since the Indian and Australian governments signed Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement on 2 April 2022. There were some points mentioned in the agreement like mutual recognition for qualification, post-study work rights, access to Indian education sectors, work holidays in Australia, etc. An initiative known as Study Australia Entrepreneurship Challenge (SAEC) started on 22 August 2022.
SAEC has almost 36 teams taking part in the program, where 5 members were in each team around 1000 Indian students and overall 2000 students participated in the program. In this program, Students worked on four main themes Circular Economy, Creative Industry, Cyber Security and Digital Health.
On the final Day of the challenge 23 September 2022, there was a live pitch prepared by a total of 5 finalist teams namely Team 17, Team 19, Team 24, Team 27 and Team 32. Team 24 (Econominds) got the first position winning a student tour in March 2023 for 1 week, Team 27 (Ekta) was awarded the second prize which was a $2000 scholarship each, sponsored by Study New South Wales and the Third position was secured by Team 19 (Glovis Rise) got a cash prize of $500 each, sponsored by Study Queensland.
The winner team ‘Econominds’ presented a ‘sustainable clothing’ Idea, which was based on the Reverse, Revamp and Recycle of clothing. The Ideas was to remake the old clothes with help of cutomisation by fashion designers and selling them online through a platform called Fabric Circle. They mentioned that more than 1 million tonne every year in India.
The 2nd prize was won by Team ‘Ekta’ that was based on mental health where their target audience was Online youth and age group of 18-24 years. The Idea was of a Social Virtual World (SVW) called ‘Mindscape’ which is a Meta Verse where people create their Avatar and meet to the other Avatars across the geographical boundries. The problem they were targeting was of lonliness and personal development.
The 3rd Prize was won by Team ‘Glovis Rise’ in the pitch they were telling about the gaming addiction in Teenager, Pre- Teenagers and Adults, They introduced an app called ‘Gmate’ which is a graphical analytics of game timing. It will have AI enabled voicebots and chatbot. The USP of their app was that it provided detailed personalize counseling.
“It is time to take India and Australia’s relation forward through the next generation and Indian students to get Information specifically created for them. In these 2 weeks we have brought the youngest talent to solve some real problems” said Melissa Banks, Head of International Education Centre of Excellence, at Austrade, during his speech in the beginning.
The live pitch event was judged by Melissa Banks, Head of International Education Centre of Excellence, Austrade and Sukhmeet Singh, CEO and Founder at A2P Energy. During the Live pitch, Judges asked questions related to their startups. The winners were also announced at the end. All five finalist student teams of SAEC 2022 were awarded a digital scholarship certificate that they can use to complete one Australian accredited Diploma unit, sponsored by Blended Learning International.
