BUFFALO, N.Y. – Barbara Humpton, the president and CEO of Siemens Corp., will speak at the University at Buffalo to discuss the importance of STEM education and preparing students for the industrial workforce.
Her appearance comes after Siemens provided UB with a software gift that students are using to learn the latest tools for computer-aided design, simulation, manufacturing planning, robotics, product lifecycle management and more.
Who: Barbara Humpton, the president and CEO of Siemens Corp.; Hope Knight, president, CEO and Commissioner of Empire State Development; UB President Satish K. Tripathi; Kemper E. Lewis, dean of UB’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences; and other dignitaries.
Where: Davis Hall on UB’s North Campus.
When: Wednesday, Oct. 5, from 9 to 11 a.m. The best time to interview Humpton is from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Background: In 2021, Siemens Digital Industries Software Academic Program provided UB with a software and corresponding curriculum to prepare UB students for high demand roles in the industrial sector.
Specifically, UB students from the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, School of Management, and the School of Architecture and Planning are graduating with in-depth, working knowledge of software being used by hundreds of the world’s largest industrial companies — including over 330 companies in New York State.
This innovative public and private workforce development collaboration will prepare students for highly skilled positions at companies in Western New York, such as Moog, Inc., and elsewhere in New York State.
The grant to UB is one of over 1,000 partnerships in the Siemens Digital Industries Software Academic Partner Program. The grant supports the university’s comprehensive Boldly Buffalo campaign, which is seeking to raise $1 billion to support UB’s students, enhance and enable faculty research, and improve outcomes around the world.
