This role will suit someone who loves liturgy and music, has experience of event management, and enjoys working in a team environment.  The ideal candidate will be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Summary:
The Second Verger will have a senior role within the team of vergers to fulfill the daily logistical, liturgical, worship, and events planning duties of the Verger’s office. Reporting directly to the Head Verger, the ideal candidate will have experience in a liturgical church environment, and, preferably, knowledge of the Episcopal Church.  The Second Verger will be expected to work not only with the departments of the parish, but also the Choir School.
The role requires a high level of organizational skills and a fluency with several desktop publishing systems.  The role is unique in that there is a high level of administrative work and, at the same time, an expectation that the Second Verger will also have a public ceremonial role in the liturgy.
The Second Verger will assist the Head Verger in his or her administrative and liturgical duties, deputizing for the Head Verger in his or her absence.  He or she will have specific responsibility for event management and will need to work closely with the Music Department, Concerts at Saint Thomas, the Office of Institutional Advancement, the Communications Department, and the Choir School to ensure that events are planned and executed effectively.  The Second Verger will need to ensure excellent communication between the various stakeholders for various events which can be as diverse as an external booking of a space in the parish house to a major concert with significant logistical requirements.  The Second Verger will work closely with the Communications Department and Facilities Manager in the development and implementation of the church’s communications strategy, and the management of its various spaces.
Early on in his or her time in post, the Second Verger will research and make proposals for the installation of a new diary management software system, and liaise with Touchpoint (the parish’s database software) and the Office of Institutional Advancement, and the Communications Department in the development of an application for mobile devices.
The Second Verger will also have responsibility liaising with Communications and Tour Guides in the interpretation of the building and its history, utilizing various electronic means as well as traditional methods for visitors to access information and history: tour guide leaflets/interactive touch screens/QR codes, etc.
