Talking the business of sports
The topic of legal sports betting is a hot one in California as residents prepare to vote in November on two major propositions that could finally launch California sports betting. One proposition would legalize in-person sports betting, while a second would legalize California mobile sports betting. California currently only allows in-person gambling at race tracks and at Indian gaming casinos, and many of the resident Indian tribes are campaigning to keep sports betting from being legalized in the state.
Californians love their sports teams, so the latest California sports book deposit bonus and California sports book promo code could be very popular if online sportsbooks get legalized. Until California online sports betting becomes a reality, bettors can head to the race track and take part in the sports betting in California the state has to offer now. They can also brush up on their sports-betting terms with this quick guide from our friends at SportsLine.
There are several ways you can make sports wagers both online and in retail sportsbooks and plenty of bet types you’ll want to familiarize yourself with.
Money line: If Los Angeles is listed as the -200 favorite against San Diego on the money line, you’d need to bet $200 on New York to return $100 on that side to win. San Diego as a +200 underdog would return $200 on a $100 bet if it wins.
Against the spread: If San Francisco is listed as the 7.5-point favorite against Los Angeles, that side must win by 8 points or more to cover the spread. LA can cover that spread by winning outright or losing by 7 or fewer points.
Over/Under: If a sportsbook sets the over/under for a game between Golden State and Los Angeles at 200, you would bet whether you think the total of both teams final scores will hit over or under 200.
