Wolfram Research Launches the Wolfram Institute: A New Institutional Model for Doing Science – PR Web

Wolfram Institute: Advancing the foundational study of physical, technological, natural and abstract systems through the paradigm of computation
Launched today and founded by Stephen Wolfram and James Douglas Boyd, the Wolfram Institute is a nonprofit research organization created to accelerate the development of breakthrough methods in the study of pure computation and its modeling applications.
Initiated during a period of unrivaled scientific invention catalyzed by the Wolfram Physics Project, the Institute is founded to deliver new results, theories and functionality that identify global laws in real-world systems; expand the study of computational behavior; and build models that address fundamental questions with enhanced explanatory reach.
The Wolfram Institute will be the new home of the Wolfram Physics Project as well as a number of new basic science research projects. Uniting all of the projects is a new suite of computational modeling methods built to advance the paradigm of multicomputation and the theory of the Ruliad, which allows Stephen, James and an initial cadre of full-time research fellows to study computational foundations in a deeper, more structural way than ever before possible. The Institute will also be announcing projects in economics, molecular computing and distributed computing (among others) in the coming months.
"Stephen and I agree that science can do better. Computers reveal untapped worlds that explain more than today's science. And focused teams can gain access to those worlds. I have plans to develop an organization and research pathways to do so, and I've learned much from Stephen about execution. He trusts me to go build the Institute and change science, so it's time to act on those plans. And, as a key member of the Institute, he'll be an indispensable partner on the science front." – James Douglas Boyd
The creation of the Wolfram Institute will advance the foundational study of physical, technological, natural and abstract systems through the paradigm of computation.
Fellows and affiliated researchers of the Wolfram Institute will be practicing open science, livestreaming research meetings and sharing results with working code as it's being created. An engaged and curious public is welcome.
